WTAE and the Pittsburgh Business Times recently reported that President Donald Trump will be visiting Pittsburgh next week to be the keynote speaker for the 2019 Shale Insight Conference. Trump’s visit coincides with a full day of indigenous-led activism organized by the People Over Petro Coalition in response to the Shale Insight conference at that exact time and location: Defend The Water! starts at noon, with a permitted march at 1pm down Liberty Ave. starting just outside the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown hotel near the point. It will be followed by a rally outside the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh at 2pm. If you attend the march/rally, please follow guidance from the appointed marshals in yellow vests. Find extensive details on Facebook here and also at https://breatheproject.org/event/shale-insight-conference-march-and-rally/.
This news also comes right after news emerged, also from the Pittsburgh Business Times here, that ExxonMobile is looking to build another massive fracked plastics plant in Beaver County, just upwind of Pittsburgh. Another fracked gas plastics plant is on the cusp of getting the green light from PTT in Ohio. The region is being transformed by poison.
Please share this event information widely. The world needs to know that Pittsburgh stands FOR people, FOR a livable climate, FOR clean air and oceans, and FOR healthy communities. Petrochemicals do not further any of these goals. See you in the street.
