US DOE Virtual Public Meeting to discuss impacts of petrochemical infrastructure 8/24/21 11:30 am – 1:30 pm EDT.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) will be hosting a virtual public meeting on August 24, 2021 from 11:30 AM EDT – 1:30 PM EDT to discuss the potential impacts of petrochemical manufacturing, pipelines, and supporting infrastructure on environmental, safety and health conditions in local communities and on global greenhouse gas emission inventories and targets.
The information collected in this meeting will inform the Department’s understanding of petrochemical development on front line communities and provide important context to analytical assessments on the long-term trends related to the domestic production, consumption, export, and use of ethane.
Our goal is to obtain important data, information, and perspectives from individual stakeholders on: (1) local environmental, health, and community impacts associated with petrochemical manufacturing, particularly from ethane crackers and pipelines; (2) health and safety risks to local communities from accidents and system failures associated with such facilities and infrastructure; (3) greenhouse gas emissions from such facilities and infrastructure; and (4) opportunities to reduce environmental and health impacts locally and along the value chain, up to and including product exports.
Attached please find the Federal Register notice published on August 9, 2021, which formally announced this virtual public meeting and provides additional details for those interested in participating. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Colleen Newman via email at Colleen.Newman@hq.doe.gov by Friday, August 20, 2021. The link to the meeting and other additional details will be sent to registrants prior to the meeting.
We look forward to your attendance and active participation in the stakeholder listening session on August 24th.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, Ryan Peay Deputy Assistant Secretary (Acting) Office of Oil and Natural Gas Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management
